Many people attempt to quit smoking each day, and several fail. Others are afraid of the “horrors” of quitting, from the stories they have been told. You can quit!
Most people don’t realize that you have to plan quitting to be successful. This should be an exciting new start for you, a life without smoking!
During the first few days, nicotine starts to leave the body. This may cause withdrawal symptoms, both mental and physical. It is onset of these symptoms that encourages most people start smoking again.
Acupuncture helps with:
-
Cravings
-
Headache or dizziness
-
Tiredness
-
Lack of concentration
-
Nervousness
-
Irritability
-
Sleep disturbance
The key to successful quitting is to have a plan. Acupuncture helps lessen the physical symptoms of withdrawal, while helping your body to function at it’s optimal without smoking.
The suggested course is 5 treatments with supplemental follow ups when you feel you need them. Once you have chosen a quit date:
- Cut smoking in half by your first appointment
- Identify why you smoke
First treatment: One week from quit day
At this time a full intake will be done to see where you are physically, and to identify any potential difficulties you may encounter. A plan will be discussed and created based off of your lifestyle and routine.
Second appointment: On your quit day
This is done to maximize your success, by relaxing and balancing your body the day you quit. We will go over your plan, and problem-solve any difficulties you have encountered in the past week.
Third appointment: 3 days after quit day
Progress assessment and continuation of detox acupuncture are the primary focus. At this point, nicotine levels are decreasing, and emotional/physical symptoms are expected.
Days 7-21: last two follow up appointments
During this time the body finishes expelling nicotine from its system.
Above is a suggested course of treatment, it is important to note that there are several factors that may increase or decrease the frequency of treatments. No two people are alike, so treatments will vary dependant on your needs.
